What Is The C.H.R.E.S.T.U.S. App?

Jesus is claimed to have started the religion but what evidence do we really have that supports that conclusion? We simply don’t have the evidence to state that as a fact.

C.H.R.E.S.T.U.S. is a tool that presents good information about early Christianity and presents the acutal evidence for a historical Jesus. This application attempts to provide you with as unbiased a look at the evidence as someone can provide.

We go the extra mile to educate you on how to do good historical research and show you how all historians uses Bayesian Analysis to arrive at their conclusions. There is also a Simple Bayesian Calculator that you can use as you figure out whether or not you think Jesus existed.

What Does C.H.R.E.S.T.U.S. Stand For?

Christ’s Historicity Rebuttal and Explanation System: Tools, Utilities, and Services.

We aim to provide a tool that anyone can pick up to provide an answer to any question that you might have about the historicity of Jesus. The information provided in this tool has passed the peer-review process and presents the Minimal Mythicist model.

Why Should I Trust This App?

This application sources it’s information from the collective works of Richard. C. Carrier. His books have passed the peer-review process and present solid information on how to do good history as well as a critical look at the evidence for a historical Jesus.

The conclusions presented are presented with facts that have been established in mainstream academia. Richard C. Carrier just put the pieces together and created two peer-reviewed books: On The Historicity Of Jesus and Proving History. This is on top of his already peer-reviewed articles covering the topic of Jesus historicity.

What Is Mythicism?

Mythicism is the belief that Jesus Christ never actually existed as a person here on earth. This has caused a lot of crackpot hypotheses to be postulated about the origins of Christianity. There are a lot of these hypotheses out there but the C.H.R.E.S.T.U.S. application only argues for the Minimal Mythicism hypothesis.

Minimal Mythicism is the only peer-reviewed mythicist hypothesis and represents the most likely origins for the Christian faith. Richard C. Carrier presented this hypothesis with his book On the Historicity of Jesus which this app uses to present its case for a mythical Jesus.

Minimal Mythicism states that Jesus started out as a celestial archangel in Jewish theology who descended into the lower heavens and was crucified by Satan and his demons. He was also buried and resurrected in the lower heavens before re-ascending back to the upper heavens. Philo of Alexandria, Epistles of Paul, and the Ascension of Isaiah, amongst many other pieces of evidence, present a firm foundation for this hypothesis.

What Is Bayesian Analysis?

Bayesian Analysis is a mathematical way of weighing the evidence for and against a certain topic. People unknowingly use Bayesian Analysis when they determine how likely something is. You take the prior evidence surrounding a claim and weigh it against the current evidence surrounding the claim.

Some say that Bayesian analysis shouldn’t be used but it has a wide ranging field of applications. Alan Turing used it to break the Enigma Code and it’s been used in political and economic forecasting. It’s even started to make its way into being used in some legal systems. The problem that people have isn’t with the actual theorem itself. Their problem is with the implementation which you can mess up easily.

Bayesian Analysis is the only way to come to a conclusion on how likely a certain claim is. We all unconciously already do it…especially historians.

How Does Bayesian Analysis Help Us?

At its simplest, Baysian analysis means the probability that a claim is true equals the prior probability the claim is true times the likelyhood ratio that the claim is true. This allows us to make good determinations on the likelihood that something is true because it takes all the evidence into consideration.

Bayesian analysis is being used in a lot of different industries right now and Philosophers have concluded that all historians currently use bayesian analysis by default. Since we all use this type of analysis in our daily lives already I would say that bayesian analysis constantly helps us everyday.
